WMRMYC Inc Scratch Summer Series Round 4, Carbrook - 4th February 2018

SUN 4th February 2018 0 1Plenty of wind was forecast for WMRMYC February scratch however what greeted the skippers was around 5 to 8 knots. It was however from the right direction and did build throughout the day.

Racing was very competitive and close with Scott showing how quick his new boat is. It is likely to only get quicker as ge refines it. All boats started in A rig however by about race 5 it was B allround. That was fortunate for John whose A rig main literally tore to shreds. There were a few other teething issues amongst the boats with Russel losing a sheet and with the rarely used B rigs getting a run. It was interesting to see the transition from A rig to B to a point where the A rig boat was simply out the back.

Course set for the day was 3 laps of a true windward leeward course with a clearing mark at the top and single leeward mark. There were very few incidences and little contact with marks and therefore some close racing was had.

The final points were very close. Tony was only a race or so from moving up a place or two. His V8 was very quick especially downwind and in the up pressure. The Cheinz of Mike was perhaps lucky with a liytle more consistency and a couple of A rig wins while others were changing. The next race however proved the change was left a bit late! Andrew and Dale were also quick on the water but could not convery this to a place and looking at the points it is almost unfair how quick they add up!

Thanks to John for scoring and good luck to Russel who is heading to Hobart for the Nationals as our most travelled competitor. He is certainly cool in the face of adversity.
