WMRMYC Inc Summer Scratch Series RD 2 Manly Marina - 6th December 2020

IMG 3524Conditions were looking good for sailing when we arrived at the Marina. A light but steady northerly at about 3 -4 knots and the tide low, but rising. As the morning developed, the breeze rose slightly in strength to provide some excellent sailing conditions.

Unfortunately, our race day coincided with the Sth. Qld IOM Championships being held at Paradise RYC at the Gold Coast with a number of our top skippers competing there. As a result our numbers were down to only five skippers.

It was pleasing to have Dennis back on the water after a long absence due to major medical problems. Unfortunately for Dennis, a rigging failuue restricted his day to only five races.
Rob unfortunately, is still coming to terms with his beautifully built wooden boat and had to retire also due to rudder problems after only five races.

This left only John, Steve and Andrew to battle it out for the placings. The up side of this was that we each got a place on the rostrum. Despite the lack of numbers the racing was extremely close [with shades of match racing].

The breeze suited a windward and return two lap course along the Marina Esplanade which was great for our passing spectators. It was interesting to see a number of spectators who were obviously knowledgeable about the principles of sailing explaining to wives / children what was happening on the water.

With no member in a position to keep the rescue dinghy, and to deliver it each race day, our option is to store it and the buoys at the adjacent pool for safe keeping. It therefore falls to the younger / fitter members to collect and return it each race day.

For those involved you have our thanks.
